A Cincinnati librarian accepts a generous inheritance that requires her to move to a small island and run its historic library. She arrives to find the property already occupied by the previous owner's great-nephew, a stubborn and attractive man who refuses to leave. Both stake competing claims to the same building, creating immediate conflict over who belongs there. Strange incidents begin plaguing the library, appearing supernatural at first but revealing themselves as deliberate sabotage by living people. The mysterious attacks force the librarian and the great-nephew to work together despite their territorial dispute. As they investigate the threats and protect the library from real danger, their constant bickering gives way to undeniable chemistry. The partnership that began as necessity evolves into something deeper as they defend their shared space against those who want them gone.
