When the Pye family's new puppy Ginger goes missing, Jerry and Rachel Pye refuse to give up hope. The children had worked hard to earn the money for their pet, and now someone has stolen him right from their own neighborhood. Their search leads them through their small town, following every lead and questioning every neighbor. A strange man in a mustard yellow hat keeps appearing wherever they go, but he always vanishes before they can approach him. As days turn into weeks, the mystery deepens.
