Thunder crashes outside and Henry feels scared. His enormous dog Mudge feels even more terrified than Henry does. Every time lightning flashes and thunder booms, Mudge scrambles to find a hiding spot. The big dog trembles and whimpers. Henry watches his best friend suffer through the storm. He wants to make Mudge feel safe and brave again. Henry must figure out how to comfort his frightened companion. The boy tries different ways to help Mudge overcome his fear of the loud noises. This story shows how friendship means taking care of each other when times get tough. Henry learns that being brave sometimes means helping someone else feel less afraid.
