Jean Little was a Canadian writer born in 1932 in Taiwan under Japanese rule. She became known for her prolific career in children's literature, authoring over 50 books throughout her lifetime. Little was partially blind from birth due to scars on her cornea, a condition that shaped her perspective and influenced her writing. Much of Little's work focused on themes relevant to children's experiences, and she was frequently accompanied by a guide dog. Beyond her children's books, she also wrote two autobiographies: Little by Little and Stars Come Out Within, in which she reflected on her life and career. Little received the Order of Canada (CM) in recognition of her contributions to Canadian literature. She lived in Guelph, Ontario, Canada, where she passed away in 2020.
