Part of Invincible
First published 2003
Mark Grayson is seventeen and mostly ordinary. He bags groceries, argues with his dad, and tries to keep up at school. His father, Nolan Grayson, is Omni-Man, the most powerful superhero on the planet. Mark has grown up watching that from a distance. Then one afternoon, while taking out the trash, something shifts. His body moves differently. He is stronger. He is faster. He can fly. The powers his father carried all his life have finally arrived in Mark. Nolan suits him up and gives him a name: Invincible. What follows is Mark learning on the job, facing super-villains and alien threats while still figuring out who he is outside the costume. He wants to do this right, but doing it right turns out to be harder than it looks. The tension is not just physical. Mark is trying to become his own person while standing in the shadow of a father who could level a city block before breakfast. This first volume sets up that relationship as the real story underneath all the punching.
