Caleb Dume trains as a Jedi Padawan under Master Depa Billaba during the Clone Wars. He trusts the Clone Troopers fighting alongside them. Then the Emperor issues Order 66, commanding all clones to execute their Jedi commanders. The loyal soldiers turn their weapons on Caleb and his master without warning. Depa Billaba falls, but Caleb escapes the purge that destroys the Jedi Order. Now he must survive alone in a galaxy where being a Jedi marks him for death. The young Padawan learns to hide his abilities and forge a new identity. Years pass as he transforms from the idealistic apprentice Caleb Dume into the cynical smuggler Kanan Jarrus. This transformation shapes the cocky, sarcastic rebel who will later join the crew of the Ghost to fight the Galactic Empire. The story reveals how a sheltered Padawan became a hardened survivor.
