Part of Spark House
First published 2023
Seven years ago, Harley Spark nearly kissed Gavin Rhodes, the widowed father of the toddler she nannied. The moment was bad enough that he packed up and moved across the state, taking little Peyton with him. Harley told herself she was over it. She believed that, mostly, until Gavin and his now nine-year-old daughter walk into a princess-themed birthday party at Spark House, her family's event hotel. Harley is running the event. There is no exit. Gavin looks unfairly good in a tutu, and her body stages a full protest in the form of spontaneous hives. She is not over it. Not even close. What makes it worse is that Gavin seems completely unbothered. He suggests they meet for lunch, framing it as something Peyton would enjoy. It is a reasonable offer. It is also a trap, even if he does not know it. Harley has to decide whether spending time with him will finally close the door on that old humiliation or swing it wide open again. Helena Hunting brings her trademark humor to this story about a woman caught between wanting to rewrite the past and figuring out what she actually wants from the future.
