Masked Prey

by John Sandford

Part of Lucas Davenport, book 30

First published 2020

A senator's daughter discovers her photograph on a mysterious blog while checking her social media accounts. The image appears alongside pictures of other political figures' children, all captured near their schools and labeled with their names. Hostile political commentary from various extremist factions frames these photos. The FBI gets involved but hits a wall. The anonymous photographer proves impossible to trace, jumping between locations and IP addresses. More critically, no actual laws have been broken yet. Frustrated senators turn to Lucas Davenport, someone who can work beyond federal bureaucratic limitations. Davenport must determine whether an unstable radical is stalking these young people with murderous plans. The investigation pulls him into Washington's political underbelly, where the children of powerful figures become pawns in a dangerous game of extremist ideology and potential violence.
