Jack Reacher catches a ride with a group of young Canadians heading to hike the remote wilderness of Maine. After they share a meal together, the travelers go their separate ways. Reacher finds himself in a peaceful small town, surrounded by countryside quiet enough to satisfy even his restless nature. The tranquil setting seems perfect for a brief respite from his constant wandering. But the calm doesn't last. Without warning, hiking trails get shut down for unexplained reasons. Military police arrive in large numbers, their presence disrupting the town's serenity. The officials claim it's just a training exercise, but Reacher suspects something more serious is happening. Whether he wants it or not, trouble has a way of tracking him down, even when he ventures far from civilization into the most remote corners of the country.
