Jack Hawkins receives what sounds like a prank call. The voice quotes lines from his own detective novels back to him. Jack dismisses it as another oddball fan. Then the caller delivers a chilling message: Jack has committed murder. The voice claims Jack has killed to come alive. Soon Boston police consider Jack their main suspect in a string of brutal killings that grip the city. The mysterious caller continues to torment Jack with cryptic messages about death and creation. The voice tells Jack that he creates while the caller destroys. The caller promises that when Jack dies, he will die too. Jack struggles to understand what this madman wants from him.
