Something Wonderful

by Jenny Nimmo

First published 2001

Little Hen wants to be special like the other chickens in her farmyard. When she asks how she might become remarkable too, the other birds dismiss her dreams. They tell her she's far too small and plain to achieve anything noteworthy. Little Hen refuses to accept their harsh judgment. She decides she will accomplish something truly wonderful to show them all wrong. The determined hen leaves the familiar chicken house behind and ventures into the wider world. Many days pass before she returns home to her skeptical companions. When Little Hen finally comes back, even her harshest critics must admit the truth. She has indeed done something wonderful that proves her worth and shows that size and appearance don't determine what someone can achieve.
