Fievel Mousekewitz loses his family during a storm at sea as they journey to America. The small mouse washes ashore in New York Harbor, alone and frightened in a strange new world. He must navigate the bustling streets and dangerous alleyways of the city while searching for his parents and sister Tanya. Fievel encounters helpful friends and threatening enemies as he learns to survive on his own. His sister Tanya searches for him too, singing their special song into the night sky. The story follows both siblings as they face the challenges of immigrant life in late 1800s America. Through courage and determination, Fievel discovers that family bonds can survive any distance or hardship.
