FBI Special Agent Jackson Crowne pilots his Cessna through the Appalachian mountains with psychiatrist Dr. Timothy MacLean aboard. Their destination is Washington, where the FBI plans to protect MacLean and discover who wants him eliminated. The flight never reaches its target. Jackson receives engine trouble and sends a Mayday near Parlow, Kentucky. He manages to land in a narrow valley and pulls the unconscious doctor from the wreckage before it erupts in flames. Rachael Abbott, a young woman fleeing after her father's suspicious death, witnesses the crash. FBI agents Dillon Savich and Lacey Sherlock arrive to investigate and find Jackson recovering with Rachael while MacLean lies comatose in the local hospital. The psychiatrist suffers from frontal lobe dementia, which has made him unpredictable and unable to maintain patient confidentiality. His client roster includes powerful Washington figures whose secrets he can no longer protect. Someone may be desperate enough to murder MacLean for what he knows. Jackson, Savich, and Sherlock must identify the threat before it strikes again.
