Riley Kennedy opens another misdirected email from Kennedy Riley, her colleague who works at a different office location. He forwards her messages back with irritating comments and advice she never asked for. She assumes he must be as obnoxious in person as he is in writing. Then Riley spots him at the company holiday party. Kennedy turns out to be attractive, though his personality still grates on her nerves. Somehow he talks her onto the dance floor and pitches a wild proposal. He needs a date for a wedding. She needs a fake boyfriend for her family's Christmas party. They strike a deal to help each other out. Riley agrees to the arrangement, thinking it will be simple enough to pull off. But as they spend time together playing their roles, the pretense starts shifting into something real. Riley discovers Kennedy has layers she never suspected, and their Christmas agreement becomes much more complicated than either of them planned.
