Part of Meg Langslow, book 17
First published 2014
Meg Langslow discovers she has a living grandfather when Dr. Blake recognizes her striking resemblance to his lost love, Cordelia. Stanley Denton has tracked down a lead to Cordelia's whereabouts in a nearby small town. Meg accompanies Stanley to meet her grandmother, only to learn from Cordelia's cousin that she died months earlier under suspicious circumstances. The cousin believes Cordelia's hostile neighbor murdered her. Meg and Stanley agree to investigate the death while Dr. Blake organizes a rescue mission for the wild emus and ostriches that have overrun the town after escaping an abandoned farm. The plan provides perfect cover for bringing Meg's extended family from Caerphilly to help. When the suspected neighbor turns up dead, both Cordelia's cousin and the entire emu rescue team become murder suspects. Meg must work with her newfound relative to identify the real killer and protect everyone she cares about from false accusations.
