Detective Shane Scully receives word that Walter "Pop" Dix is dead from a shotgun blast ruled suicide. Pop ran Huntington House, the orphanage where Scully grew up without parents. Pop took groups of boys surfing in the early mornings and became the father they never had. Now, thirty years later, Pop has left a final request for six former residents to serve as his pallbearers. Scully joins the other chosen men, but none of them accept the suicide verdict. Someone murdered Pop, and they intend to find out who. The pallbearers begin their own investigation, pursuing leads that take them into dangerous territory. They discover their target possesses far more power and influence than they expected. Their quest for justice puts them all at risk as they uncover the truth behind Pop's death and seek revenge against his killers.
