Mike and Geraldine Baker have just taken control of a hotel nestled in a remote Welsh valley when something crashes into a nearby field. Mike assumes the mysterious object is a meteorite, but its features don't match anything he's seen before. The stone-like thing haunts his dreams, where it appears as an enormous egg. Geraldine dismisses this notion with practical logic. What kind of egg could be made of stone? As days pass, the object reveals itself to be far stranger than either imagined. The valley's residents and the tourists who come to visit the local ruin begin to experience changes that defy explanation. What started as an idyllic setting for their new venture slowly warps into something terrible. The beautiful landscape that drew them to this place becomes the backdrop for events that challenge everything they thought they knew about reality.
