Part of The Hartigans

First published 2019

Cara's best friend calls in a favor: go nurse Ice Knights defenseman Zach Blackburn back to health before his next game. Zach is the most disliked man in Harbor City, but Cara has a nursing degree and owes her friend one. She patches him up, tries to slip out quietly, and walks straight into a paparazzi ambush. Photos spread across the city in hours. Half of Harbor City wants her head. The other half wants to give her a makeover. Then the Knights win a game, and suddenly everyone decides Cara is the team's lucky charm. Zach strikes a deal: he will break his strict no-fan-appearances rule to raise money for a free health clinic, but only if Cara sits rink-side at every home game. She cannot say no to the clinic. So they go public as a couple, even though nothing actually happened between them. The problem is that the more time Cara spends with Zach, the harder it gets to remember that. He is grumpy and stubborn, but he is also more than his reputation. Keeping her feelings strictly professional stops feeling possible, and a fake arrangement starts pulling toward something neither of them planned.
