Tortured Spirits

by Gregory Lamberson

First published 2012

Jake Helman searches the streets of New Orleans for his best friend Edgar Hopkins, cursed by a witch doctor into raven form. The investigation pulls Jake from nightclub scenes in Miami to the dangerous jungles of Pavot Island, where zombie slaves work drug plantations for the brutal dictator Ernesto Malvado. NYPD detective Maria Vasquez, Edgar's former partner, joins the mission while pressing Jake to reveal his supernatural secrets. Together they face voodoo masters, military forces, and undead armies as they attempt to rescue a political prisoner from Malvado's torture facilities. Jake operates without backup or adequate resources in hostile territory where violence and death lurk at every turn. The fourth case in Jake's supernatural detective career forces him to confront both external enemies and internal demons. His friendship with Edgar drives every dangerous choice as the investigation spirals into increasingly deadly encounters with forces beyond normal police work.
