We Can't Keep Meeting Like This

by Rachel Lynn Solomon

First published 2021

Quinn Berkowitz dreads another summer performing harp music at her parents' wedding planning events. Last year she sent Tarek Mansour a long email confessing her feelings, then watched him leave for college without any reply. Now he's back, working for his family's catering business at the same weddings where Quinn performs. She finds him more attractive than ever, but their conversations turn into arguments every time. Tarek loves the elaborate romantic displays at these ceremonies. Quinn sees them as completely artificial. Wedding after wedding throws them together anyway. They rescue a falling cake. They step in as emergency wedding party members. Quinn discovers why Tarek never responded to her email. She starts learning to craft harps from a mysterious instructor. She begins sharing her own anxieties with Tarek. Quinn realizes her cynicism about love might be wrong. Falling for Tarek could be the most authentic choice she makes.
