Who Moved My Cheese?

by Spencer Johnson

First published 9200

Spencer Johnson presents a simple parable about adapting to change through four characters navigating a maze. Two mice, Sniff and Scurry, and two miniature humans, Hem and Haw, depend on a daily supply of cheese for sustenance and happiness. When their cheese supply suddenly disappears, the mice immediately set out to find new cheese elsewhere in the maze. The two humans react differently. Hem refuses to accept the change and waits for the cheese to return. Haw eventually overcomes his fear and ventures into unexplored parts of the maze. Johnson uses this straightforward story to illustrate how people respond to unexpected changes in work and life. The book demonstrates that those who adapt quickly to new circumstances fare better than those who resist change or wait passively for conditions to improve.
