Dylan Morrissey has no patience for Shiftertown's Yule celebration this year. He heads to a sentient house in New Orleans with Ben, convinced the meeting ahead could bring dangerous new allies closer to Shifter freedom. Then the house makes its own plans. Dylan wakes up unable to move or speak, trapped in something between sleep and consciousness. Ben, Zander, and Tiger take turns as his guides, walking him through the past, the present, and a future that may or may not be real. Dylan has to decide whether what they are showing him is truth or manipulation. The stakes are not abstract. His choices have shaped the people around him, and the house seems determined to make sure he understands exactly how.
