Freya McHugh has been living as human in the city with her brother when he vanishes. The trail points to a mercenary organization, and she has managed to get a meeting with its leader. Then a grizzly bear Shifter named Shane crashes it. He hauls her off to Shiftertown and a house packed with bears, and he does not seem sorry about any of it. Freya is un-Collared and has been keeping to herself for good reason. She does not have time for a bear who keeps inserting himself between her and every next step. Shane has been living quietly in the mountains when Freya stumbles into his territory and attacks him. Something about her locks onto his protective instincts and will not let go. He blows up her meeting, moves her into his world, and watches as her long-dormant mating frenzy starts to stir. The search for her brother darkens fast. What began as a missing person turns into a threat aimed at all Shifters. Shane and Freya have to choose who they stand with and face something that could kill them both.
