Stacey and Mary Anne arrive at the New Jersey shore for two weeks of babysitting the Pike family. Sea City offers everything a girl could want: a beachfront house, sunny boardwalk days, and endless stretches of sand. Then Stacey spots Scott, the most attractive boy she's ever seen, working as a lifeguard. She becomes completely smitten and spends all her time finding excuses to visit his lifeguard station. Mary Anne watches her friend abandon their babysitting duties and ends up caring for all the Pike children alone. She grows increasingly frustrated as Stacey chases after Scott, who shows no interest in return. Mary Anne faces an impossible choice: she must find a way to tell Stacey the painful truth about Scott's indifference without destroying their friendship or crushing Stacey's romantic dreams.
