A terrible tragedy suddenly puts her in charge as senior Weyrwoman. The weyrfolk struggle to trust someone so young and from outside their ranks. Thread falls from the sky with deadly intensity. Too few dragons remain to fight it after a recent plague killed many. Even the newly grown dragons from the past cannot match the threat. Fiona sees the desperate situation clearly. She develops a plan that seems almost impossible to execute. Success could save everyone. Failure means destruction for her world.
