Part of Pern
First published 2018
Piemur struggles with his new life as a journeyman harper after losing his boyhood singing voice. The young man feels lost and uncertain about his future on Pern. When Thread last attacked the planet, dragonriders from four centuries past traveled forward in time to help defend their world. Most of these Oldtimers adapted to their new era, but some bitter exiles nursed their resentment in isolation. The Masterharper recognizes potential in Piemur and sends him on a secret mission to infiltrate the disgruntled Oldtimers. Living among them, Piemur discovers a growing threat that could shatter the delicate balance between Pern's Weyrs and Holds. When crisis strikes, Piemur must step forward to prevent catastrophe and preserve the honor of dragons and their riders. For the first time in memory, dragons themselves may turn against each other in battle.
