Grave Mistakes

The ad promised decent hourly pay for overnight security work. For someone flat broke and out of options, that was enough. The protagonist signs the contract without reading the fine print and shows up for her first shift expecting headstones and maybe a flashlight. What she gets is a Gate to Hell and a crew of demons who are convinced she is the answer to their problems. She did not sign up for this. She barely signed up for the job. But the contract she agreed to has language in it that goes well beyond standard employment terms, and now her soul is part of the deal. The demons around her are infuriatingly attractive and completely certain she can tip the balance in an ongoing war between good, evil, and whatever sits between them. Her only issued equipment is a scythe. She is figuring out how to use it before anyone drags her somewhere permanent. The story runs on her sharp, self-aware humor and the slow realization that she may actually have a role in something enormous, whether she wants one or not.
