Mack Daddy

First published 2017

Every morning, Mack Morrison drops his little boy off at the private school where his ex used to be just a memory. Now she stands in the hallway. She is his son's teacher. His name is Mack, short for Mackenzie, and yes, the nickname fits. He is the only man in a building full of women, and every one of them has noticed. What they do not know is that he chose this school deliberately. He and the narrator have unfinished business, the kind that does not go away quietly. She knows it too. She is still drawn to him. She is also dating someone else, partly to keep herself safe, and the school has a firm rule against relationships between teachers and parents. Mack shows up every single day anyway. The story is told in alternating points of view, so readers get inside both heads, watching two people circle each other, stall, and slowly run out of excuses. The central tension is simple and relentless: she knows exactly what she wants, she knows exactly why she should not have it, and Mack is not making restraint any easier.
