Rowan needs a roommate. The classified ads produce nothing useful until Declan Tate shows up at her door. He is charming and funny and completely wrong for the arrangement. She turns him down. Then he brings homemade cupcakes, and she folds. They set ground rules, keep things friendly, and it works. Both of them are carrying crushes on other people anyway, so romance is off the table. They swap advice, cheer each other on, and somewhere along the way become genuinely close friends. Then Declan pitches an idea: pretend to be a couple, make their respective love interests jealous, see what happens. Rowan is skeptical but agrees. The plan works. She starts dating the man she had wanted, and Declan gets the woman he was after. Everything lands exactly where they planned. Except Rowan cannot stop thinking about Declan. The closeness they performed for other people has left something behind that she cannot explain away. She got what she said she wanted, and it feels wrong. Now she has to figure out whether the feelings she was faking were ever fake at all.
