Maybe This Time

by Jennifer Crusie

First published 2010

Andie Miller wants to marry her fiancé and forget her ex-husband North Archer forever. When she seeks closure with North, he makes one last request. His distant cousin has died, leaving North guardian of two orphaned children who have already driven away three nannies. He needs Andie's help. She discovers that Carter and Alice are far from ordinary problem children. They live in a decrepit old house with a sinister housekeeper who rivals Mrs. Danvers in creepiness. Andie's fiancé suspects North is scheming to win her back, and he might be correct. Strange dreams about North plague Andie's nights, but dreams are the least of her supernatural problems. She must deal with a confused parapsychologist, an irritated medium, her tarot-reading mother, and her vengeful former mother-in-law. When North arrives unexpectedly, Andie wonders if their relationship could work this time. She needs to banish the living guests and the dead spirits to rescue the children and herself from their troubled past.
