Meg Langslow throws herself into organizing the Virginia Un-Fair, Caerphilly's ambitious replacement for the bankrupt state fair. Before the gates even open, thieves steal two prized Bantam Russian Orloff chickens from the poultry tent. A wave of creative vandalism follows, targeting heritage animals, prize vegetables, and handmade crafts throughout the fairgrounds. While hunting the saboteur, Meg encounters her friend Molly, a goat cheese maker facing disaster. Molly's worthless husband Brett has abandoned her for wealthy winemaker Genette Sedgewick and now demands half their farm in divorce proceedings. Meg recruits her mother to locate a divorce attorney for Molly. That same night, someone kills Brett. Police immediately arrest Molly for his murder. Meg refuses to believe her gentle friend could commit violence against anyone. She must identify the real killer while continuing her search for the fair's mysterious vandal. The investigation pulls Meg deeper into Caerphilly's tangled relationships and hidden motives as time runs short to save her friend.
