Digory and Polly become unwilling test subjects when Digory's Uncle Andrew deceives them into touching his experimental magic rings. The rings transport the children to the Wood between the Worlds, a forest filled with pools that serve as gateways to different realms. Through one pool they discover a dying world where they awaken Jadis, a powerful and malevolent queen. Their mistake becomes catastrophic when Jadis follows them back to London, terrorizing the city with her supernatural strength and cruelty. The children must find a way to remove the dangerous queen from their world, but their solution goes awry when Uncle Andrew and a London cabman with his horse get pulled along on their journey. All of them end up transported to a new, empty world that is destined to become Narnia. Digory faces the weight of responsibility for unleashing evil, while the children discover that some mistakes can reshape entire worlds.
