Vera Wong's tea shop is busy now. Her son Tilly has a girlfriend. The strangers she collected during her last murder investigation still turn up for tea, which is exactly how Vera likes it. She would change only one thing. She would like another body. What she finds instead is a police file on Xander Lin, a social media influencer who is dead and who, for all the followers and all the posted life, nobody seems to have actually known. Vera decides this is a case. Nobody asked her to take it. She has a second motive as well, because Tilly's girlfriend is Officer Selena Gray, and Vera has never once let a professional boundary stop her from helping. So she starts working Xander's life, which turns out to be almost entirely surface, and working the people who stood closest to it. The meddling is the method. The tea is not optional. And the found family Vera built is now the thing she has something to lose by.
