Vejay Haskell calls in sick to her job reading electric meters in Henderson, California. She sneaks to Frank's Place, the local bar owned by her friend Frank Goulet. After drinking hot buttered rum, they fight and Vejay storms into the rain. She returns home to sleep off the alcohol. When she goes back to apologize, she finds Frank dead. The police suspect Vejay because witnesses saw her leave angry and she has no solid alibi for her fake sick day. With arrest looming, Vejay decides to hunt for the true murderer herself. She realizes her job gives her perfect cover since people ignore meter readers. Racing against time before the police charge her, Vejay must use this invisibility to uncover the real killer and clear her name.
