Mercy Watson lives with Mr. and Mrs. Watson, who treat their beloved pig like family. Mercy loves snuggling in bed with her owners while they feed her buttered toast. The pig feels warm and content nestled between them each night. But Mercy's weight proves too much for the old bed frame. One evening the bed crashes right through the bedroom floor with a tremendous boom and crack. The Watsons find themselves sinking slowly downward as their floor gives way. Mercy bolts from the wreckage in a flash. The Watsons convince themselves their smart pig has rushed out to fetch the fire department. Mercy has other plans entirely. She smells something irresistible drifting from the neighbors' house. Fresh sugar cookies call to her much more urgently than any emergency. This cheerful pig faces a choice between helping her family and satisfying her appetite.
