Hermia faces an impossible choice. Her father demands she marry Demetrius, but she loves Lysander. When the young couple escapes into the woods at night, Demetrius chases after them, followed by Helena, who burns with unrequited love for Demetrius. The forest holds its own troubles. Oberon and Titania, the fairy king and queen, quarrel over a servant boy. Their conflict spills over when Oberon commands his sprite Puck to use an enchanted flower that makes anyone fall in love with the first creature they see upon waking. Puck delights in the mischief, but his magic goes awry. The love potion turns the four mortals against each other in new combinations. Meanwhile, a group of workers rehearses a play nearby for the Duke's wedding. Puck transforms one actor's head into that of a donkey and enchants Titania to fall for the bewildered man. As dawn approaches, the magical mishaps reach absurd heights, leaving hearts tangled and identities confused in Shakespeare's comedy of errors.
